Expansion Nears Completion,
Layoui Cleanup, Repairs
Begun as Show Date Nears
With less the two weeks to go before the opening of the 1999 annual show,
work crews continue to push forward on the building expansion. The long hours of
dedication by these members are paying off as key projects are nearing or have been
completed. Still unclear is weather the construction will be completed in time for
the Club to obtain either a temporary or permanent Certificate of Occupancy.
Meanwhile cleanup and repairs to the HO layout have begun in earnest.
Locomotive and rolling stock wheels are being inspected and cleaned as they are put
back onto the layout. Vacuuming and track cleaning are high priorities, as are
repairs to track, scenery, and structures.
Still to be resolved is the installation of reversing units for the
Digital Command Control System (DCC), and the training of operators. Add in a brand
new show that will have to be learned, and it's apparent that the Club is operating on a
very tight schedule.
Landscaping Back on Track
Landscaping of the Club's grounds, postponed several times this year do to
weather-related issues, is planned for later this month. The landscape architect for
the Union County Park System informed the Club that an order for materials has been
placed, and should be on-hand before the start of the annual show. Members will be
needed to help plant about forty bushes and trees.
HO Department News
It was announced that the annual meeting of the HO Department will be held
on January 8, 2000 at 1 p.m. The meeting will take place on the balcony in the new
section.
Building Expansion Report
(This report is an updated version of the Building Expansion Report
printed in the November, 1999 issue of The Clearboard.)
Thanks to the hard work of many Club members, it is possible that the
building expansion will be ready for the show.
City Fire Equipment has completed installing sprinkler pipe in the
building expansion layout area and balcony,as well as over and under the existing HO
layout. The new bathrooms, office, meeting room, and N-scale layout areas have also
been completed. The installers claim that they will be done by the 20th.
The alarm panel has been installed and heat detectors are being
installed. The water service and preaction valve have been installed.
Elizabethtown Water made that tape to the water pipe on November 10th & 12th.
Footing for the ADA ram have been poured. Construction of the ramp is well underway.
The ramp should be completed during the weekend of November 20-21. Some
decking, guard and hand rail installation remain. The stairwell and ADA ramp
handrails have been delivered and need to be installed.
The ceiling grid has been installed and leveled. New ceiling
tiles have been installed in the existing HO layout room. The completion of
intallation of ceiling tiles and HVAC vents where installed in the building expansion
during the week of November 8th.
John Morris has completed installing tiles in the new bathrooms.
The fixtures have been installed. The new bathrooms are now complete and have been
tested..
Electrical work is complete. Ceiling and balcony lights have been
installed. They are operated from push button switches (like the ones for the
current layout) located next to the North balcony stairs.
Painting and spackling is complete other the touch-up work necessitated
by the installation of the sprinklers.
Floor tile and stair covering have been received. The floor
tiling has been laid and the installation of the stair covering will be complete by
Saturday November 20th.
Door closers, panic bars and glass are being installed and will be
completed by Sunday November 21st.
Thank you to all the members who worked hard to complete the
building. Without their time and dedication we never would have been able to
complete the addition before the start of the 1999 annual show.
